Surrounded by groves of oak trees, featuring rustic charm and serving the legendary flavors of Texas, Blanco BBQ typifies Hill Country appeal. But fortunately for brides and grooms, no long drive is necessary to get there. The restaurant and its party room are conveniently located in north central San Antonio.
“Our venue captures the state’s true heritage right here in a gorgeous part of our city,” says Steven Honigblum, founder and owner of BBQ. “We give wedding couples and their guests authentic country hospitality and delicious barbeque in a natural wooded setting.”
Dining, Dancing, and Horse Rides
Boasting the ambiance of the state’s historic dancehalls, Blanco BBQ's party room is furnished with a raised stage for a live band or DJ, roadhouse antiques, a spacious bar and walls with a weathered wood finish. Amenities include expansive windows that reveal majestic oaks and an 80-inch HDTV for slideshow and video presentations.
As many as 100 guests can enjoy dinner and dancing in the party room, and the restaurant’s signature barbecue and sides can be served buffet-style or as a plated dinner. For larger functions, the party room combined with the restaurant can accommodate up to 250 guests.
The restaurant’s shady deck patio is ideal for hosting a cocktail hour with beer, wine and appetizers such as pulled pork sliders and fried mushrooms. Horse and pony rides on the property’s verdant grounds can be arranged, and a sizeable playground is available for child guests.
“Brides and grooms have the flexibility to make their wedding event as beautiful, fun and entertaining as they desire,” says Roxanne Davis, the general manager of Blanco BBQ.
One of the venue’s recent wedding couples infused the party room with touches of rustic elegance: bouquets of bright orchids and white lilies filled mason jars, burlap runners adorned white linens, a lace underlay embellished the cake table and uplighting accented the stage.
“From lighting to linens and flowers, brides can dress up the party room to reflect their style,” Roxanne says. “We can even host the ceremony and then set up the room for the reception and dance.”
Cuisine with a Kick
Blanco BBQ practices the art of barbeque perfection. The restaurant’s on-site smokehouse cooks Black Angus brisket “slow and low” over pecan and oak wood, Steven describes. The Polish sausage comes from Falls City, Texas, and the chicken and turkey go through a special process called brining to make the meats delectably juicy and flavorful.
“All of our meats and recipes have a little kick to them,” he says. “They are uniquely seasoned and beyond the ordinary. We work hard to please every palate.”
Equally savory are the homemade sides such as potato salad, charro beans, country style green beans and sweet cream corn. Blanco BBQ has earned a respectable reputation for its house barbeque sauce, tasty pico de gallo, spicy carrots and pickles and giant jalapeños. Wedding couples can create a dessert bar serving homemade peach cobbler, brownies, cheesecake and pecan pie.
Blanco BBQ provides economical wedding dinner packages that include the party room, food and beverages, banquet chairs and tables, linens, cake service, plates, flatware and glassware. Off-site catering is also available. Wedding couples are offered complimentary menu tastings.
“We invite couples to experience our distinctively Texan ambiance and food,” Roxanne says. “There’s no place like it in San Antonio.”
