    Pearl Stable & Pearl Studio

Sure, a horse barn may not be a place one typically envisions their wedding. But, then again, there has never been anything typical about Pearl Stable.

Built in 1894 to house the horses that pulled the Pearl Brewery beer wagons, the barn’s elliptical shape and intricate brickwork were a symbol of the brewery’s affluence and success and a reflection of the late nineteenth century Victorian love of grandeur and ornamentation.

But, by the early 1900s delivery trucks replaced the horse and wagon and the stable was used for storage until drastic renovations turned this barn into a banquet facility in 1950. After the windows were bricked in, the hayloft removed and a suspended plaster ceiling installed, the venue – known then as the Pearl Corral – was immersed in a western theme, which included cowboy murals, exotic game trophies, giant cactus and a replica of the rustic home of Judge Roy Bean, a legend of the Old West known for holding court sessions in his saloon along the Rio Grande River.

In 1971 the building was again remodeled in a Gay ‘90s theme (think red velvet wallpaper) and reopened as a bar and entertainment venue under the name Jersey Lilly in honor of Lilly Langtry, an infamous British actress born on the island of Jersey and idolized by Judge Bean. When the brewery closed in 2001, so did the venue.

The Stable building would undergo yet one more reincarnation, the most elaborate in its history. This time, however, the new owners – Silver Ventures, Inc. – strived to restore the stable’s original architectural charm while still providing an elegant, versatile and modern meeting space. Through painstaking renovation and restoration they succeeded on all parts.

“We worked very hard to make it a flexible space,” says the Venue Manager. Now a bright and open venue encompassing both rustic charm and first-class features, this former barn can accommodate weddings, business meetings, conferences and workshops ranging from small, casual affairs to the large and extravagant.

In addition to the Stable, the brewery also offers Pearl Studio, an event venue with a more modern flair. Located inside the brewery’s former “Full of Goods” warehouse, this event space emits an upscale lounge vibe that is ideal for a pre-wedding rehearsal dinner, a cozy wedding, or the post-wedding day family brunch.

The main function space, however, is the elegant, historic Pearl Stable. It boasts a round 5,525 square foot space, highlighted by two nine-foot bronze chandeliers and beautiful ironwork crowning a half-circle stage. That plaster ceiling added half a century ago has been removed to reveal the rich dark wood rafters in place since 1894. And in the center, a cupola has been replicated using the stable’s original architectural drawings. Opposite the stage, two sweeping staircases lead to a loft that can offer extra seating or a dramatic entrance point for a bride and groom. Below the loft, replicas of the original horse stalls have been installed, finding new uses as both cozy seating nooks and food stations.

The 655-foot stage perfectly details the duality of this unique setting, encompassing both that historic replica of Judge Bean’s house as a backdrop (although it may be hidden if it does not match a reception’s décor) and modern theatrical lighting and state-of-the-art audio system.

With the recent removal of those bricks placed in the stable’s windows during the 1950 renovation, the foyer surrounding the main room is now a bright, 1,800 square-foot pre-function area with two built-in bars and access to the picturesque courtyards outside. A nod to the stable’s original brewery tie can be found in the beer bottle chandeliers and the crushed beer bottle bar tops in the foyer, along with the triple Xs incorporated throughout the entire venue. According to German folklore, when the beer was of excellent quality, the King’s royal taster would mark the batch with an xXx, a symbol used in Pearl Beer advertising, and now found by the observant eye throughout the stable’s decor.

Aside from the venue’s absolutely stunning transformation, the main source of pride for Pearl Stable lies with its high level of service and attention to detail. From the fully-equipped catering kitchen, free parking, and elaborate restrooms to the availability of a wedding coordinator, security guard and audiovisual professional, Pearl Stable seeks to meet every need of their clients.

“Everything is a Yes! We’re building memories here. A wedding is something you treasure forever and we want to treat those memories with care.”

Sure, an old horse barn may not be a typical venue. But, Pearl Stable definitely rates xXx.
