Rising from a picturesque downtown corridor, The Spire displays nearly 135 years of history in a chic urban setting. The former church building, tucked in the St. Paul Square Historic District, has found new life as a venue exquisitely crafted for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
“Original limestone walls, arched windows and handsome wood floors provide a lovely palate for celebrating wedding vows, dinner and dancing,” says Ellen Andrus, director of special events for St. Paul Square. “Outside, the Spire’s triangular towers and gorgeous stone walls create stunning photo possibilities.”
Spaces for the Entire Event
Before exchanging vows, brides enter the Spire through richly finished double wood doors. The procession path culminates in an antique brick wall featuring three arched windows that bestow natural light on the occassion.
“Timeless architectural details make it a perfect venue for tying the knot,” Andrus says.
Following the ceremony, guests can savor cocktails and appetizers on the Spire’s stone courtyard or treed grassy area.
“For a bit of fun, a jazz ensemble or mariachi band can entertain family and friends mingling among the scenic downtown surroundings,” suggests Andrus.
Soaring vaulted ceilings and wood flooring imbue receptions at the Spire with an airy ambiance. Stone walls and wood columns come alive when enhanced with uplighting that complements the couple’s event. The spacious venue, with an intimate feel, can host as many as 200 guests for dinner and dancing.
“We’re extremely flexible in helping brides and grooms use our indoor and outdoor spaces to express their wedding vision,” Andrus says. “They can hold a cozy ceremony, elegant reception, swanky dance or anything in between.”
For their planning convenience, couples may select their own caterer, decorators, bartender and other vendors and can bring their own alcoholic beverages, which can amount to a significant cost savings, Andrus notes.
“We don’t limit our couples by making them pick select vendors. Instead, they’re free to bring their own wedding professionals, or I can refer them to vendors if they need planning assistance,” Andrus says.
Included with the Spire rental is a wedding package that offers round tables, white padded chairs, cake, gift and sign-in tables, a scheduled wedding portrait session, the rehearsal and use of the in-house sound system.
Set a block from Sunset Station, the Spire offers privacy in a district burgeoning with restaurants and nightlife and is close to downtown’s popular attractions.
“Locals and out-of-town guests love that the location is a stroll from the Alamo and River Walk as well as from countless hotels,” Andrus says. “During the holidays, couples and their guests enjoy taking their photo in front of the illuminated train at Sunset Station.”
Conveniently, the Spire is accessible to a wide variety of transportation options before and after the wedding.
“Brides and grooms can arrive or leave their event via a vintage horse-drawn carriage, or they can arrange for themselves and their wedding party to ride in an old-fashioned trolley,” Andrus describes. “To keep the party going, guests can catch a ride or walk to one of the nearby restaurants or upscale bars. You can’t beat the location.”
