From deciding between buffet or plated, to choosing beef or chicken, finding your ideal wedding caterer—and one that’s within budget—can be a stressful part of the wedding planning process. But Edward Garcia III, head chef and owner of one of San Antonio’s only food truck caterers, The Box Street Social is taking traditional wedding catering outside the box.
Yes you read that correctly, I did say food truck. But don’t be fooled, The Box Street Social isn’t your typical side-of-the-road taco truck. Established in 2015 by Edward and his business partner, Daniel Treviño, The Box Street Social began as a business venture with hopes of bringing flavorful fare to the city of San Antonio.
“We were originally looking for a brick and mortar but weren’t finding anything that matched our ideal size, location or price,” says Edward. “So we thought that beginning as a food truck would allow us to get moving, begin building the following we wanted and really build our brand.”
And with a wide range of menu favorites including decadent Pulled Pork Stuffed Avocados and sweet and savory Thai Chili Wings, that brand has quickly won the hearts and taste buds of foodies across the Alamo City. It seemed as though in a blink of an eye they were sitting on a Yelp rating of 4.5 stars and a social media following of more than 6,500 followers.
From a traditional Knife and Fork Menu to Live Station and Food Truck menus, even delicious desert menus— The Box Street Social takes pride in providing couples various options no matter their style.
“We get a lot of relaxed brides who sometimes have parents who are a little more conservative. They hear food truck and think we’re going to be passing out tacos, so we like to give her some options. We’ve had couples who want the traditional family style dinner and some who want the food truck to be front-and-center because they think it’s cool— we can satisfy both!”
No matter which menu you choose, The Box Street Social guarantees a delicious meal. And with food prepared onsite, you can forget about food traveling in hot boxes and count on absolute freshness— setting Edward and his team apart from your average catering company.
And for the couple with families who can’t and won’t stop the party, The Box Street Social offers a Late Night Menu option, which can include your late night rituals, the hangover-busters, and all your other guilty pleasures.
“I sometimes have couples who confess to me that they love bean and cheese tacos but they don’t think of that as an option to serve at their wedding. So I tell them to add it to their Late Night Menu and the response I get is hilarious: ‘Wait, I can have that?!’ And I tell them, ‘yeah, it’s your wedding you can have whatever you want!’”
Edward is a firm believer in providing precisely that, affirming that your wedding should be exactly the way that you want it.
“The best part and most important part of my job is building relationships with my couples so that I can create that personal experience for them. My goal is that when I see them at the wedding, they say, ‘Man this is exactly what I pictured!’”
And in doing that, my couples stick around, they buy tickets to our special events, they come visit us at the food truck parks. It’s fun because it feels like I’m just always adding to my group of friends. I mean don’t get me wrong, I love cooking but for me it’s really about building those relationships— that’s where the ‘social’ part comes in.”
