When a ceremony and reception venue is family operated like The Chandelier of Gruene, it adds a sense of comfort and trust for those interested. Whether you call, e-mail or experience a tour, you will work personally with Myra or one of her two daughters, Chelsea and Haley. These three ladies are a part of a close-knit family, carrying that bond over into their work with managing weddings and other events. Once you meet them and experience their genuine kindness and excitement for your big day, you'll be ready to book right then!
In addition to Myra, Chelsea and Haley, there are a few others that help bring the dream to life at The Chandelier of Gruene. Tim, Myra's husband, manages guest and vendor parking during events, and Myra's father-in-law, Eugene, along with Jeremy and the rest of their cleaning crew are in charge of maintaining the beauty of the grounds and buildlings to keep them looking immaculate day in and day out.
Located just five minutes from historic Gruene and centrally nestled between Austin and San Antonio, The Chandelier of Gruene is in the ideal spot for hosting gorgeous weddings with plenty of nearby entertainment.
When guests first arrive to the grounds, they drive through a tree-canopied lane down to a large, paved parking area that leads up to the chapel and venue via a scenic sidewalk path through more stunningly large trees.
The venue’s chapel is very unique. It is an open-air chapel capable of having the sides closed should weather conditions require it. Rustic teal doors open up into the chapel’s beautiful line of pews, accommodating up to 300 guests. For added seating, there is an option to put extra chairs in the lawns next to the chapel. As if the beauty of the chapel wasn’t enough, it even comes with a full sound system and a speaker in the bell tower.
“We always tell our clients to put together a playlist of about 20 minutes and we will play that prior to the ceremony, so as their guests are walking up the sidewalk to the chapel, they are hearing the music and it kind of sets the tone,” said Myra Zunker.
If your fairytale wedding isn’t complete without the ringing of the church bell once you’ve been announced as man and wife, then you will be delighted to know that The Chandelier of Gruene’s chapel has a bell for you and yours to set off!
After saying your vows in front of your loved ones, everyone can then make their way to one of the outdoor patios for cocktail hour. For added entertainment, you can reserve the Borracho Burros, Johnny and June. These donkeys’ services are a side business ran separate from The Chandelier of Gruene by Chelsea. For events, she dresses the donkeys up and equips them with saddlebags stocked with beer as they walk around socializing with guests during cocktail hour.
After drinks, guests can make their way into the 12,000-square-foot reception hall with a capacity of 500 guests and enough space leftover for a large dance floor. Additional seating is located on the 3,200 square feet of covered patio space situated on both sides of the building, with one side offering a gas fire pit.
When you first walk through the large, sliding barn doors of the reception hall, your eyes are immediately drawn to the centerpiece—a 5’x6’ chandelier. The venue is home to a total of seven major chandeliers, thus living up to its name. The venue’s large windows offer great views of the outdoors, making guests feel as if they are outside while enjoying the comfort of the indoors.
“When we were designing everything we really wanted to bring in a lot of textures,” said Chelsea Owens. “In the reception hall, we’ve got the exposed, Chicago brick and hand-troweled walls—we wanted to do that so people didn’t feel like they had to bring a lot of decorations, because it was already beautiful by itself.”
The space in the hall is flexible and can be transformed into almost any layout you desire. The venue comes with up-lighting that can be changed to any color, a rear-screen projector and a stage that is large enough to fit a 15-piece band.
At night, the outdoor lights capture an astrological effect when the string lights and in-ground landscape lighting illuminate the canopy of trees, symbolizing a full moon.
For getting ready on your big day, The Chandelier of Gruene has two handsomely furnished suites. The bridal suite has comfortable sofas and salon high chairs in front of well-lit mirrors, comprising a dream space for the girls to get dolled up. The venue doesn’t leave the guys out—there’s a suave groom’s suite complete with a foosball table and a bar mimicking the front of an old car with headlights that illuminate. There is no doubt that The Chandelier of Gruene really knows how to make their couples feel extraordinary on their big day.
For added convenience, there is lodging located on the property right next to the reception and ceremony buildings. The lodging is the original ranch home on the property built in 1976. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and can sleep up to 16 people. Its amenities include a game room furnished with a foosball table, an air hockey table and a TV, an outdoor swimming pool with lounge chairs and a patio. The bathrooms were recently renovated with tile showers and granite countertops. These accommodations are perfect for out-of-town guests or for those with small children wanting to put them down for bed before the wedding festivities have ended.
Something else that makes The Chandelier of Gruene so special is that when guests book the venue for their event, they have exclusive access to the property beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until the day’s end.
Take a tour of the grounds and walk through the rustic teal doors of the chapel, and you’ll see why The Chandelier of Gruene is a wedding venue that you won’t be able to stop thinking about!
